“ Today, my dearest brothers, with the God’s witness, in the name of Saint Andrew’s, I shall make an oath on founding the order of the Golden Fleece ” ,said Philip III La Bon, Duke of Burgundy, to the 24 knights in red robes.
“ William the wise, my most loyal companion ” said the duke. The old William came forward to receive the insignia with 28 flints on it from Philip III, the duke of Burgundy.
Looking at the engraved “ I will have no other ” on the insignia, William made his oath: “ In the name of Saint Andrew, No matter where I am at, even in the fire, I shall follow thou, with no hesitation. ” William became the first knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
